Women’s Lingerie and How to Care for your Exotic Lingerie

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Having spent your hard earned money on your beautiful lingerie, then the last thing you want to do is see it ruined after the first wash. Unlike other clothing lingerie is very different when it comes to washing.

Babydoll’s and Chemises cannot be treated the same way as Jeans and Shirts and just be thrown into the washing machine on a normal cycle and left. The result would be a trip to your nearest lingerie store to replace the item.

Women’s Lingerie will not last for ever but by following some simple guidelines your Camisoles and Teddies will last longer and keep their shape.

Lingerie today comes in fabrics and materials that make caring for the item easier than in days gone by. Most of the underwear sold today will come with manufacturers tags recommending how to care for your Satin Babydoll or your Lace Bustier. These recommendations should be followed if the lingerie is to last.

The tags will separate your lingerie into different washes, dry clean only, hand wash and machine wash. Make sure you always read the label as to the type of wash as mistakes can be very costly. So let’s look at the different types of cleaning.

Dry clean only
This is probably the easiest option as the garment can only be cleaned at a specialist shop. This could cause a problem as lingerie is a very private item and not everybody would be happy to take their Teddy or garter Set into a shop to be cleaned. There are products available that can be used at home and imitate the dry cleaning process for those not willing to use a dry cleaning shop.

Machine Wash
The modern washing machine is a time saving invention but it can cause major damage to your delicate underwear if the instructions are not followed.
Always wash your lingerie in cold water and use a detergent specially recommend for delicates never use bleach. Never wash dark and light colors together. Finally combine this with the delicate cycle on your washing machine and your lingerie should have no problems with repeated washes.

However as I have mentioned before Babydolls, Chemises, Camisoles and Bustiers can be delicate items with lace trims, ribbons, hooks and eyes that need to be cared for. Just putting these items into a washing machine even if you follow the instructions above could result in damage. To avoid this put your lingerie into a lingerie bag for extra protection (this is a mesh bag that allows soap and water in, but stops your lingerie being stretched, and can be purchased from most department stores). Only put one item per bag as this will stop the lingerie becoming entangled. Also always make sure all the hooks and eyes and buttons are fastened, and that zippers are closed and ribbons and drawstrings are tied.

Hand Wash
Hand washing is the alternative to the machine wash. Again the principle is the same, always wash in cold water and use a delicates detergent. Soak the lingerie in a bowl filled with cold water and detergent for about 30 minutes then drain and refill the bowl with clean water and no detergent, leave for another 30 minutes then drain the water. This should be sufficient for most washes; however for stains or odours this process can be repeated. Never wring out your lingerie as this could effect the shape.

Drying
Again due to the fabrics used in your lingerie it is always best to hang dry or flat dry your garments. Dryers can cause un-repairable damage to your silk Chemise or satin Babydoll. If you have to use a dryer then leave the lingerie in the lingerie bag and set the dryer at its lowest possible setting. You will find that sheer fabrics such as mesh or Chiffon require no heat to dry.

So by taking a little care and reading the tags on your lingerie, your Babydolls, Chemises, Teddies, Camisoles and Bustiers should look as good as new wash after wash.

Jeans Never Go Out Of Fashion

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Take a peek at anybody’s closet be it a toddler’s, a teeny bopper’s, a working professional’s or even an oldie’s and you will find a good old pair of jeans. Jeans has been part of the fashion industry for quite sometime and it never seems to grow out of popularity and it never seems to go out of fashion. The different styles of how the jeans are designed changes through the fashion seasons but they always come back. You may find it hard to believe but when jeans were first introduced into the fashion scene they weren’t that popular at all. Now, millions everyday get into their jeans and wear them to school and for some even to work. I suppose the versatility of the jeans have made it a staple in every closet.

Jeans have gone through several transitions from the bell bottom jeans to the tight cigarette jeans type. Then there was the emergence of the hip hop very loose jeans that were sported by rappers mostly. Women’s jeans come in a variety of styles from low rise denim jeans, to hipsters, to those with boot leg cuts, or straight cuts. Many types of jeans are also embellished with numerous beads, stones, sequins and the like and most are also styled with intricate embroidery design. The possibilities to what you could do to jeans are endless. People are even giving their good old jeans that worn out look by ripping them on certain areas that would show some skin like the thigh for the women. Wearing ripped jeans gives that rugged, rebellious look to a man and would make a woman look very hip and chic. You may have noticed many celebrities sporting these ripped jeans.

What is in right now among the women are those tight fitting jeans wherein you could just overlay a long blouse or a short dress on top. These are usually made of stretch material to conform to any body type as well as accentuate you in just the right curves. Dark colored jeans would definitely give a more slimming effect, which is what most women are looking for.

Irregardless of what your choice of jeans would be as to cut, style, color, texture and even wash, I guess what matters most is that you look good in it. Most importantly you should be confident and comfortable when wearing it for this is what makes or breaks a certain look.

Did you Know the Earliest Know Jeans Came From Bombay?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The earliest known pre-cursor for jeans is the Indian export of a thick cotton cloth, in the 16th century, known as dungaree. Dyed in indigo, it was sold near the Dongarii Fort near Bombay. Sailors cut it to suit them.

Jeans fabric was first created in Chieri, a town near Turin (Italy), already in 1400s. It was sold through the harbor of Genoa that was the capital of an independent republic, and a naval power. The first were made for the Genoese Navy because it required all-purpose pants for its sailors that could be worn wet or dry, and whose legs could easily be rolled up to wear while swabbing the deck. These jeans would be laundered by dragging them in large mesh nets behind the ship, and the seawater would bleach them white. According to many people the jeans name comes from blue de Genes, i.e. blue of Genoa.

Riveted jeans

In the 1850s Levi Strauss, a German dry goods merchant living in San Francisco, was selling blue jeans under the “Levi’s” name to the mining communities of California. One of Strauss’s customers was Jacob Davis, a tailor who frequently purchased bolts of cloth from the Levi Strauss & Co wholesale house. After one of Davis’s customers kept purchasing cloth to reinforce torn pants, he had an idea to use copper rivets to reinforce the points of strain, such as on the pocket corners and at the base of the button fly. Davis did not have the required money to purchase a patent, so he wrote to Strauss suggesting that they both go into business together. After Strauss accepted Davis’s offer, on May 20, 1873, the two men received patent #139,121, a patent for an “Improvement in Fastening Pocket-Openings,” from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Copper rivets for reinforcing pockets are a characteristic feature of blue jeans.

Copper rivets for reinforcing pockets are a characteristic feature of blue jeans.

Initially, blue jeans were simply sturdy trousers worn by workers, especially in the factories during World War II. During this period, men’s jeans had the zipper down the front, whereas women’s jeans had the zipper down the right side. By the 1960s, both men’s and women’s jeans had the zipper down the front. In the United States during the 1950s, wearing of blue jeans by teenagers and young adults became symbolic of mild protest against conformity. Some older adults as disruptive considered this; for example, some movie theaters and restaurants refused to admit patrons who wore blue jeans. During the 1960s the wearing of blue jeans became more acceptable and by the 1970s had become a general fashion in the United States, at least for informal wear. Notably, in the mid-1950s the denim and textiles industry was revolutionized by the introduction of the stonewashing technique by GWG (Great Western Garment). Entrepreneur, importer and noted eccentric, Donald Freeland of Edmonton, Alberta, pioneered the method that helped to bring denim to a larger and more versatile market. Denim suddenly became an attractive product for all age groups and Freeland became one of the most important innovators in the history of denim and denim products. It should be noted, also, that Freeland contributed to a variety of other denim textile developments throughout his career with Great Western Garments (GWG)[2] Acceptance of jeans continued through the 1980s and 1990s to the point where jeans are now a wardrobe staple, with the average North American owning seven pairs.

Being imported American products, especially in the case of the Soviet Union that restricted hard currency imports, jeans were somewhat expensive. In Spain they are known as vaqueros or “cowboys” and in Chinese, jeans are known as niuzaiku (literally, “cowboy pants” (trousers), indicating their association with the American West, cowboy culture, and outdoors work.

Jeans can be worn very loose in a manner that completely conceals the shape of the wearer’s lower body, or they can be snugly fitting and accentuate the body. Historic photographs indicate that in the decades before they became a staple of fashion, jeans generally fit quite loosely, much like a pair of bib overalls without the bib. Indeed, until 1960, Levi Strauss denominated its flagship product “waist overalls” rather than “jeans”.

Blue jean insulation

Recycled blue jean is becoming a popular insulation material in the construction of houses. Due to its low relative synthetic chemical composition and because it is made of recycled materials, it is gaining prominence in green building circles. Like conventional insulation, it moderates temperature and reduces sound transfer between floors or rooms.

Women’s Sleepwear Speaks About Fashion Statement

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Women’s sleep wear are also called nightdress, nightclothes, or nightwear. It is a clothing created for sleeping purposes. It is worn by women who really feel comfortable with it because some would rather prefer to sleep naked or only in a particular type of underwear. The type of nightwear being may also depend on the season. Take for instance; some women are wearing nightdresses only on winter. But now, using it is another way of following the latest trends in fashion.

There are several types of women’s sleep wear and each has specific features that will cater into the different preferences, styles, and needs of every women. Take enough time in educating yourself with various styles and get inspiration from its different looks and appeal so that you can create your own fashion statement.

-A night wear which is really intended for women is a babydoll, popularly known as negligee or short nightgown. The garment is usually trimmed with ruffles, lace, appliqués, ribbons, bows, and Marabou fur which can be designed optionally with spaghetti straps. The materials used are either translucent fabrics (silk, chiffon, or nylon) or sheer. A babydoll is considered a provocative dress resembling minidresses which have six inches hemline above the knees and hollow designs on the necks.

-The most popular loosely designed night apparel for women is a nightgown or nightie which is made of materials such as nylon, satin, silk, and cotton. Its length may vary. It can either be a hip-length or a floor length nightgown. However the usual length is knee length. A nightgown can be decorated with embroidery and lace appliqués on the hemlines and cups.

-The women’s sleep wear which is only intended for bedroom and night use is the negligee. It was introduced during the eighteenth century in France where it copied the designs of the day dresses of women that time. However, the alteration of its designs with lace trimming, bows, and translucent bodices lead in considering it as lingerie. The modern designs revealed fabrics sewn in multiple layers giving a more fine emphasis on women’s bed-capes and bedjackets.

-The simple garment worn by women next to their skin to protect their clothes from body oils and sweat is called chemise, shift or smock.

-Lingerie is a women’s sleepwear which is now considered as undergarments.

-The special type of shirt which can be used for sleeping is called a nightshirt. This is a bedtime garment patterned in the undergarments of Europeans during the nineteenth century.

-The type of a long nightgown that is usually chiffon made with a sheer design is referred to as peignoir. It is worn without underwear however it is usually sold with panties attached to it.

Today, women’s sleepwear continuously dominates the fashion preferences of most women. Some women wear it on public to express their idea that these comfortable sleep dresses could be elevated for legal public use. There are women, who also experimented in using it together with their denim shirts, jeans, sweaters, and blazers.

The versatility of sleepwear truly opens the creative horizons of women. Sleepwear is not anymore for indoor or bedroom use only. It can be a beautiful outer wear which can be worn with or without accompaniments. Women will really feel sexy, cute, and comfortable besides fashion is also a matter of confidence for them.
